Joy Ewing, MA, LMFT
FOUNDER
OUR STORY
It Started With One Therapist, One Vision, and a Desire to Create Something Different.
Joy Life Counseling didn't begin as a group practice.
It began as a private practice founded by Joy Ewing, MA, LMFT, with a vision to create a therapeutic space where people could feel genuinely seen, understood, and supported.

From the beginning, Joy wanted her practice to be a place where clients could bring their whole selves into the therapy room—their relationships, families, culture, identity, faith, experiences, struggles, strengths, and stories.
And she wanted therapy to feel human.
Warm.Welcoming.
Culturally aware.
And free from the stigma that has prevented far too many people from seeking support.
THEN THE VISION BEGAN TO GROW
As the Practice Grew, So Did the Need.
She continued seeing the gaps that existed in access to culturally responsive and affirming mental health care—particularly within Black, Brown, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and historically underserved communities.
She also realized that one therapist could only reach so many people.
So after approximately three and a half years in private practice, Joy made the decision to expand Joy Life Counseling into a group practice.

The vision became bigger than one therapist.
It became about building a team.
BUILDING IT ONE BRICK AT A TIME
A Vision Became a Practice. A Practice Became a Community.
Joy didn't have every detail figured out when she started. She had a vision. She had a goal. And she decided to keep building it one brick at a time.
ADVANCED CLINICAL TRAINING
As Joy Life grew, Joy continued investing deeply in her own clinical development, pursuing advanced training in trauma and relationship-focused approaches.

EMDR

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

The Gottman Method

LENS Neurofeedback
…and other evidence-based and trauma-informed therapies.
But gaining knowledge for herself was never the end goal.
Joy also developed a passion for mentoring, supervising, and developing other clinicians. Because increasing access to quality mental health care means developing more therapists who are equipped to provide it.
Today, Joy Life Counseling includes clinicians with different backgrounds, specialties, personalities, lived experiences, and areas of expertise who share a commitment to compassionate, ethical, culturally responsive care.

We continue to invest in clinical development, mentorship, supervision, and training because we believe the quality of care our community receives matters.

WHY WE CONTINUE TO GROW
Because Access
Matters.
Our growth has never simply been about becoming a bigger practice. It's about reaching more people.
01
There are still communities where therapy carries stigma.
02
There are still people who have never seen a therapist who looks like them or understands important aspects of their lived experience.
03
There are still people who have never seen a therapist who looks like them or understands important aspects of their lived experience.
04
There are still couples who need support but don't know where to turn.
05
There are still people who want therapy but can't afford traditional private-pay rates.
06
And there are still far too many people who believe they have to wait until they're falling apart before they're allowed to ask for help.
We want to help change that.
That's why Joy Life continues to expand our therapists, specialties, insurance options, affordable counseling opportunities, wellness services, community programming, workshops, and resources.

AND WE'RE STILL BUILDING

Healing Doesn't Only Happen During a Therapy Session.
Joy Life Counseling has grown into a beautiful practice—but the vision isn't finished. As we've listened to our clients and community, we've also realized that healing doesn't only happen during a therapy session. That realization inspired the continued expansion of Joy Life Wellness.

We're creating opportunities for people to care for themselves emotionally, relationally, physically, and within community through therapy, neurofeedback, movement, wellness experiences, workshops, retreats, resources, and intentional spaces for rest and connection.

AND THERE'S MORE TO COME
And more ways to make mental health and wellness accessible.
We're proud of what we've built.
We're grateful for every client, clinician, family, partner, and community member who has trusted Joy Life along the way.
And we're excited about what we're still becoming.
